Behind the Scenes

I photographed these flowers last spring purposely under exposing, over exposing and using the correct exposure for each image. After spending some time with these beautiful white flowers, I found that the images that were overexposed suited the subject the most and helped bring out the simple charm these flowers possess.

It is always very different to attend an art exhibit on opening night as opposed to having a private walk through with the artist himself. In the case of photographer Brian Howell, I am lucky to have had the private visit first for his series Carts and now for Press. In this latest body of work, Howell captures the visual look of printing plants. Some of them now closing their doors forever as the world moves more and more towards digital information. What is interesting is that Brian started his photography career as a photojournalist taking pictures for newspapers.

As I was talking with him, I could feel a sadness in his voice to see the industry that gave him his first chance slowly disappear.

You can see “Press” at Winsor Gallery until April 7th.

Photographer Nick Veasey captured X-Ray images of familiar hospital objects to accompany an article Steven Brill wrote for Time magazine regarding healthcare in the United States. It is absolutely worth reading and it makes me quite thankful to be Canadian.

I would like to dedicate this week’s Art In Homes post to my friend Elese and the new addition to her family. I have a feeling she will love the orange accents of these homes.

I have always loved the white large sails of Canada Place in Vancouver, but the rest of the building is not as impressive. I decided to photograph them by cropping out the entire structure below. The white is so bright against this beautiful deep blue sky.
